Thursday, January 8th, 2009

fabGuess who the first ladies were to appear on red carpet at tonight’s 2009 People’s Choice Awards? That’s right, 90210 hotties Jennie Garth, Jessica Stroup, Lori Loughlin, and AnnaLynne McCord. Jennie covered up and stayed sophisticated in a black shift dress. Jessica dared to be bold in a funky Herve Leger. Lori exuded chic in a sheer ivory number. Finally, AnnaLynne played the siren in a body-hugging gray mini dress. Which TV star is most Fab?

‘90210′S LORI WANTS MORE DRAMA

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

LIKE the privileged teens at the couture-clad center of “90210,” the high school soap has spent much of the first season grappling with growing pains.

“I still see the show as one that’s finding itself,” star Lori Loughlin tells The Post. “We’re going through transitions – with writers and storylines – but we’re getting there. It’s simply indicative of a first-year show.”

Sadly, Loughlin’s character – Debbie Wilson, matriarch of the neo-Walsh family – has been the one short-changed most often, thanks to plots that mainly use her as a sounding board for kids Annie and Dixon.

“I’d hate to think this is it for her,” Loughlin says of Debbie’s lackluster arc thus far. “I’d love to see more conflict in her life, I’d love to see her and Harry come against obstacles that real couples deal with – the days when the bloom is off the rose.”

It sounds like Loughlin is going to be getting her wish starting with tonight’s episode, which makes the Wilson home ground zero for a major family disaster.

“[Harry's illegitimate son is] now in our lives and Annie has overheard something that lets us know that two plus two isn’t adding up to four with this guy,” Loughlin teases. “But Harry’s accepted him and Debbie supports Annie, which puts them up against one another for the first time.”

And Loughlin is hoping that after spending 11 episodes functioning as “90210’s” pseudo-Donna Reed, this jolt of creative electricity isn’t short-lived.

Lori Loughlin Opens up about 90210

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

‘90210’, the spin-off of hit series ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’, premieres on Star World on Dec. 6 (Saturday) at 8pm. And it is the perfect opportunity for an interview with series star Lori Loughlin.

From ‘Full House’ to ‘Summerland’ and now the all-new ‘90210’, Lori Loughlin has had her share of playing TV matriarchs. Away from the cameras, she plays a real-life mum to her teenage stepson and two young daughters. Since 1997, the small-screen vet has been married to fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, the creator of the Mossimo fashion label.

Given her personal life, Loughlin is no stranger to glamorous parties and a chi-chi lifestyle. On ‘90210’, however, she plays Debbie Wilson, someone who is unfamiliar to the world of Hollywood. In the buzz-heavy spin-off of the iconic teen drama, Loughlin’s character moves with her husband and two children from Kansas to Beverly Hills and has a hard time with the transition.

Forced to live with her opinionated, boozy mother-in-law (Jessica Walter from ‘Arrested Development’), Debbie tries to help her daughter, Annie (Shenae Grimes), and adopted son, Dixon (Tristan Wiilds) adjust to their new school, West Beverly Hills High, where her husband has been appointed school principal.

In this exclusive interview, Loughlin talks about the original series, her hopes for the revamp and life in TV’s favourite zip code. (more…)

Motherhood 101 care of Lori Loughlin

Things have been going great for Lori Loughlin since the sitcom Full House made her a familiar face to televiewers around the world. Since her Full House character, Rebecca Donaldson won televiewers’ hearts, Loughlin has become a shoo-in for TV matriarch roles.

And why not? She has the real-life experience to show for it. The wife of fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, creator of the famous fashion label, Loughlin has a teenage stepson and two daughters, aged nine and 10.

Her job is to strike a happy balance between being wife and a mother. And, from the looks of it, she’s succeeding. Her sunny, glamorous image shows it. So do her wife and mother roles, such as the one on Star World’s 90210 (premieres Nov. 4, 9 p.m.).

As Debbie Wilson, Loughlin is a dutiful wife who moves with her husband and two children to posh Beverly Hills but has a hard time coping with the transition. Wives out there will feel for her as she is forced to live with her opinionated mother-in-law (Arrested Development’s Jessica Walter). Moms will identify with her as she helps her children adjust to their new school and its rich students.

Loughlin herself is just as hands-on in real-life. In fact, she thinks she’s too hands-on for her own good.

“My character (on 90210) is always very calm and level-headed,” she says. “And as often as I try to be like that, sometimes as a mum you can lose your footing. So I tend to raise my voice a lot more than my TV character.”

After all, no one says raising a teenager is easy. As the stepmom of a 17-year-old boy, Loughlin has to strike a balance between letting go and holding on. (more…)
